Hope has holes
In its pockets
It leaves little
Crumb trails
So that we
When anxious
Can follow it
Hope’s secret
It doesn’t know the destination
It knows only
That all roads
Begin with one
Foot in front of the other

Hope is the lifeline for difficult times, when everything seems bleak and the future is uncertain. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and destroyed by dire situations, whether it’s a personal crisis, illness, or external circumstances beyond our control. In any circumstance, hope is an active, vital force that fuels our survival and resilience.
In extreme situations, hope plays a crucial role in maintaining mental and emotional strength. It helps us focus on what we can control, even if it’s only our mindset or small daily actions. Hope doesn’t promise immediate relief, but it creates a space for perseverance and thus it is not a passive experience. It’s the belief that, no matter how impossible a situation may seem, there’s always a possibility for change that is the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
Countless survival stories — from wilderness adventures to personal struggles — reveal that those who held on to hope were often the ones who made it through. Hope drives us to keep going, to find creative solutions, and to reach out for help when needed. In the darkest moments, it’s hope that reminds us we are not defeated, but rather, still in the fight for a better tomorrow. Never underestimate the power of holding on to hope.
