When you think about geniuses, very often names like Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking or Steve Jobs come to mind. We have been lead to believe there is some special ingredient with which these people were born that allows them to operate at that supra-intelligent level. Certainly we could never aspire to the same level of capability!
Well, there is some good news about the geniuses of this world and it is this: You don’t have to be born a prodigy. The brilliance of genius depends to a greater degree on persistence and hard work.
A colleague once defined genius in this way:
Genius is the ability to work hard, stay focused and keep on working hard long after everyone else has given up.
This view shines a light on the previous notion of exclusivity in this group. It offers some insight into the deeper meaning of what genius is really all about.
