Dynamics of Birth
One of the aspects Breathworkers/Rebirthers address in a session is what do you know about your birth? Did your parents want a boy or a girl? Were you planned, wanted, a long labour, fast birth, forceps used, a caesarean, cord around the neck, twins, was your mother anaesthetised etc.?
The reason for these questions has partly to do with the way you go through change and what you internalised about your first experience of change.. that of leaving the womb and entering the world. What was the environment like from conception to delivery?
In your life right now are there patterns that consistently show up whenever you go through change? Changes such as entering or leaving a job, a relationship, your residence, taking a holiday etc. In a typical hospital delivery you leave a warm, liquid environment with muted sounds, housed and nourished by your mother for nine months. You’re connected. All your needs are met. At birth you arrive into a brightly lit delivery room with a sharp drop in temperature (compared with the womb), the cord that connects you is (usually) hastily cut, you take your first breath sometimes held upside down, are slapped and then separated from your mother. All of this takes place in an atmosphere of emergency in the delivery room. What does a baby do with this experience? As you mature and grow up are you someone who feels safer being in your home than being out in the world - or vice versa? If, for example, the womb was toxic, or your mother was abused during pregnancy you may be someone who feels safer being out in the world than being at home. If forceps were used, do you trust support from others or does support feel like manipulation? Do you feel you don’t need anyone's help, you can do it yourself, or do you typically manifest someone to 'pull you out' of a situation and help you at the last minute. If you were a long labour do you tend to 'labour long' over accomplishing things or feel unsafe or uncomfortable moving through things quickly?

The Iceberg
The Iceberg is the essence of imagination. Who do you wish to become in life? The Iceberg which we can see is only a small percentage of what is really there. Like your desires there is more than meets the eye.
'What we can easily see is only a small percentage of what is possible. Imagination is having the vision to see what is just below the surface; to picture that which is essential, but invisible to the eye.'
Unleash the potential within!!
The Breathwork/Rebirthing Process
Breathwork/Rebirthing is a wholistic healing method based on a simple breathing exercise which consists of connecting the inhale and the exhale so there are no pauses between filling and emptying the lung space. After breathing in this connected manner for approximately an hour, the typical new Breathwork/Rebirthing client finds his consciousness involuntarily leaving the focus of the breathing, and moving instead to review events in his own individual past. Generally, these events were ones which resulted in his accumulating negative thoughts and feelings, which still dictate his basic attitudes and beliefs. As the client continues the connected breathing during this re-experience of past events, the tensions involved with the past are dissolved. This is just by the connected breathing, not by any dramatisation or any other kind of expression. Having let go of these negatives, the client becomes free to make conscious choices about current real-life experiences that previously had been compulsively dealt with in a neurotic manner because accumulated tensions limited choice. The connected breathing produces healing.
A Typical Session
A typical session usually starts with the client sharing with the Breathworker/Rebirther what has been going on in the client's life. The exploration focuses on what positives the client wants to establish in place of currently held negatives. Some discussion of affirmations that counteract these negatives takes place. Then the client lies down and breathes in the connected pattern, generally for at least an hour. The client is coached and guided by the Breathworker/Rebirther who helps the client remember to breathe when negative associations - coming up on their way to being released - cause the person to hold his breath. The Breathworker/Rebirther also encourages the client to breathe in a full, relaxed manner. After the cycle of release is over, the client relaxes into a peaceful, blissful state, from which he easily emerges as the session closes.
For Things to Change first you must change!
How are Affirmations Connected?
An affirmation is a declaration that what an individual wants his current real-life experiences to be like - what he hopes for - actually has already been realised and is true. It is a positive statement. "I want to stop being unhappy all the time" is a complaint containing a negative thought. "I'd like to be totally happy" is a hope or a wish, not a reality in present time. But "I am totally happy" is an affirmation.
Most Breathworkers/Rebirthers encourage their clients to use Affirmations. The connected breathing releases old negatives, and the 'place' once occupied by these old negatives becomes open to being filled by appropriate positive attitudes. As a Breathwork client says or listens or writes an affirmation, it serves an additional purpose in calling to mind any lingering negatives that are still hidden from consciousness. The client can then breathe away these additional emerging negatives, and thus, in effect, make the evoking affirmation itself a true reality.
Is Breathwork/Rebirthing a Cult or a Religion?
No, despite the confusion with terms often associated with evangelistic religious conversions like 'reborn' and 'born again'. Breathwork/Rebirthing frequently does enhance an individual's spirituality, but since the effect of Breathwork/Rebirthing is generally to aid the individual in becoming his own authority, so Rebirthing is contradictory to the kind of authority represented by most religions. Although Rebirthers acknowledge a great benefit from the originator of this breathing technique, Leonard Orr, such affectionate associations do not constitute a cult.
